When Zodiac N Black got in contact with me, to see if I wanted some CD's to use as giveaways, I jumped at the chance. Even though I'd only heard 'Bad Pills' before, I knew I was on to a good thing. This young London 4 piece had been tipped for for great things in 2012 and with their debut album 'The Aftermyth', its not hard to see why!
From the opening riffs of the first track 'Bastanido', that walks up and smacks you squarely in the chops, each track comes at you from a different direction, but achieves the same result. Jim and Hank, on guitar and bass respectively, are relentless throughout, whilst Jad's vocals show a great range and are reminiscent of Chris Cornell, without sounding like a clone. The album has signs of influences from Soundgarden, Black Sabbath, and Queen, but the combined result is a sound that stands out as completely thier own. The first 3 tracks, 'Bastinado', 'A Necessary Evil', and 'Only The Lonely', let you know exactly what to expect, whilst 'The Joke Is On Us' lulls you into a false sense of security with its much calmer start, and then kicks you back half way through. In all honesty, there is no weak track, the single 'Bad Pills' is an absolute stormer, (see the video below), and at just over 10 minutes long, the album closing 'Light On Blues' is EPIC!!
In all, 'The Aftermyth' is a fantastic album. If you like your rock great riffs, awesome vocals, loud guitars and the odd smack in the head, GET IT!! Its available here at iTunes.
